Why Nick Grimshaw Is My Latest Excuse for Being Lazy
Okay, I’ll admit it. I’m pretty terrible at getting up in the morning. (Actually, it’s probably that I’m terrible at going to bed in the evening, but that’s semantics.)

Paying the Price for Bad Grammar
This is why we need Grammar Nazis:

Things I Learnt Today
- That Ben “Yahtzee” Croshaw is a goon;
- that his early stuff is, if anything, funnier than his paid stuff for The Escapist;
- that I there will always be something on the Internet that I haven’t seen, and that someone will think I have been living under a rock to have missed it.

Yay, xkcd
Using a Makefile to produce a memorable xckd comic.

Spotting a Fake Pound Coin
Supposedly 2% of all pound coins are counterfeit. But how do you know when you have a fake? I heard the news item and had a quick look at the pound coins in my pocket, and couldn’t see anything. I thought that maybe it wasn’t all that easy to spot. But then I saw one my Mum had:

Radovan Karadžić’s Disguise
Radovan Karadžić, the recently captured war criminal, was doing a good job disguising himself as Noel Sharkey:

All Work and No Play Makes Facebook a Dull Network
The walls have spoken. In the last week or so, Facebook has introduced a new feature called Lexicon (learn more), which allows you to enter a number of search terms and see how popular those terms are on people’s walls. The graph of “party tonight” when compared with “hangover” is quite predictable, especially around Hallowe’en and New Year’s:

Happy Switch
After spending too much time looking at images on imagechan, I was reminded of a perfect photo opportunity.

Comic Day
We decided to have a go at some comics after seeing some crazy comics at Pandyland.

Square Wheels and Catenary Roads
I learned that square wheels can ride on a road constructed of inverted catenaries.

I Can Has Cheezburger?
Lolcat has taken over my life. I spend far too long looking through pictures of amusing cats superimposed with intentionally grammatically incorrect captions.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End
Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate’s life for me…

Spider-Man 3
We went to see Spider-Man 3 for Jay’s birthday today. I’ve seen the second, and really enjoyed it. This one, I must admit, was no different — despite warnings from critics and friends alike that “there’s too much going on.”

College Day
Always a great day, and this one was no exception!

Song Covers That Work, But Shouldn’t
Not sure what was going through my head to think of these, let alone write them down.

New Wii & JC’s Antics
Andy got a Wii the other day. A complete impulse buy — but a good one, I might add! It came with Wii Sports, a game that demonstrates the revolutionary controller known as the Wii remote:

Val Thorens
I have just got back from my trip to Val Thorens with Collingwood College Skiing & Snowboarding Club. It was great! The snow was much better than Val d’Isère, at least for the first part of the week. The last couple of days weren’t so good, but I missed out on the penultimate day so that was all right!

If Only I Could Get Away With Saying This
Anyone who cannot cope with mathematics is not fully human. At best he is a tolerable subhuman who has learned to wear shoes, bathe, and not make messes in the house.

First Ever DUFMS Flash Mob
Today, we had the first flash mob in Market Square. The mission: everyone had to freeze for two minutes when the cathedral bells rang 2pm.

Faith Restored in WLM
I have re-installed Windows Live Messenger today, after attempting to get it working before and being a bit miffed. For one thing, the contact list seemed to have lost any control over showing display pictures as per MSN Messenger 7.5, and plugin control for Messenger Plus! Live was handled rather differently.

Jay’s New Memory Card
Jay managed to get a Sony M2 memory card. It’s tiny!

Boarding Tryouts
This evening was spent at the artificial ski slope at Silkworth Sports Complex in Sunderland. It was supposed to be tryouts for the DUSSC, but didn’t seem that organised: Upon arrival I purchased a membership card (for £5) that meant I got a discount — except that it only applied to skiers. Thankfully the staff also thought I was a skier and charged me the cheaper skiers’ price for entry! Reg managed to pay for both the membership card, only to then be told that he didn’t need it, but was going to have to pay full boarding price…
